What People Are Saying About Aishah Shahidah Simmons and Monica Dillon

  • Dear Aishah, people are still talking about how great your visit to UCSD was! You and Monica really rocked this place with your film and your discussion afterwards. It was so nice to see you and to witness you in action again. Your work is so powerful. Many thanks and congratulations on all your well-deserved success - David Pellow, UC San Diego
  • Aishah & Monica, thank you, thank you, thank you. What else can we say? We had about 30 people at today’s luncheon, and as it turns out they will not allow us to say no to From Womb to Womanhood for next year. Many have pledged their support and encouragement to have a similar one-day event in March–Month of The Woman. We feel that your message set the tone for what is about to take place. Thank you, thank you, and thank you again. Stay in touch; we will as well - Debra Powell-Wright & Pat McLean-RaShine, Philadelphia, PA
  • I had the privilege of seeing NO! at the Allied Media Conference in Detroit. Aishah, as a rape survivor, I’ve been having trouble expressing my thoughts and fears about what happened to me. The courage of the women in your documentary to speak out is a new inspiration. I’m telling my friends and colleagues about your film, as I think it’s imperative for women and men of all backgrounds to see it and increase their understanding about violence against women. Thank you for your work - Cecilia B, Chicago, IL
  • Hey Sister just wanted to drop you a line to express how much I enjoyed meeting you at Sister-Song and now working with you on WOCVAWHIV/AIDS issues. Your music is soul stirring and inspiring, and a pleasure to listen to. I play your CD in my car and my teenage grandsons really “be feeling it” - Waheedah Shabazz-El, Philadelphia, PA
  • I had the opportunity to see the NO! Screening on May 19 hosted by SFWAR. Thank you Aishah, for your work in the Black community regarding this topic. Unfortunately, my group had to leave before the briefing, and I really wish we had. One of my guests called me and shared her story. I’m so glad that I had the foresight to invite my circle to be educated, and in turn, gain an even closeness to my friends. I so want to share this film over and over and over. BRAVA BRAVA BRAVA - Jacqueline, East Palo Alto, California
  • I had the privilege of viewing NO! at the IDVACC conference in Long Beach, CA. What a profound awakening. We know that rape and sexual assault happen in our communities, but nothing would have prepared me for what my heart felt when I listened to my sisters tell their stories. I’m purchasing the NO! documentary for the work that I do here in Boston, but also to show to my nieces and my 7 year old daughter in a few years, it is never to early to educate our daughters. Keep up the great work - Elder Trac Jackson Antoine, Boston, MA
